The Future

2017

While usually driven by the topic of survivalism, motivation for this body of work came from close readings of the stories and poems featured in the 76th Issue of subTerrain, a Canadian literature & cultural commentary magazine. Rather than approaching the collages from a place of direct illustration, the pieces were built out of one question: “if this writing were a dwelling in a landscape, what would it appear to be?” Through this line of inquiry, the writings and collages become extended metaphors of each other, where re-reading and close visual engagement offer layered, rich interpretations, resistant to a binary relationship between word and image or singular reading. The Future holds multitudes.
